NEWS

November 27, 2023:  “My 3 Favorite Reads of the Year” went live on Shepherd. You can see it here. To read other authors’ 3 favorite reads of the year click here.

October 12, 2023: I published Ray Bradbury–Space Age Visionary. This is the undergraduate thesis I wrote at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in the mid-1970s. For years Amazon has listed it as “Out of print–Unavailable” although it was never technically in print. UNL’s Love Library had a copy in their Special Collections department, which is where I believe Amazon’s spider bot discovered it while scrambling across the web in search of information.  Well, now it is in print and available for whoever might be interested.

September 19, 2023: My new collection of short stories, The Last Bus and Other Stories, has been released in digital and paperback formats. The digital and paperback versions are now available at Amazon and the digital version is available at Smashwords.  Because it will take a few days to a few weeks for both versions to be distributed to other online retailers, the official publication date is October 2, 2023.

June 1, 2023: Renamed my novel, Timelines. It is now In the Year of the Plague.

April 19, 2023:  I have deactivated my Twitter account because that organization has gone increasingly off the reality rails, and I don’t wish to be associated with it anymore. In addition, I believe we are watching the once-mighty Twitter crash and burn because of mismanagement by its new owner, Elon Musk. He bought the company recently for $44 billion but today it is valued at half that, which I attribute to the direction he is taking it. You may still find some links to my Twitter account online or in the back of my books–it’s a monumental task to sweep away every single link–but they should be dead links now and unimportant.

February 5, 2023: Submitted “A Glitch in the System” to Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine. It is the first new short story I’ve written in almost two years. I wrote it during the hiatus between completing Timelines and preparing my marketing package (query letter, synopsis, one-sentence pitch) for Timelines.

January 17, 2023: I spent the first two weeks of this year polishing Timelines, preparing my submission package (Query Letter, Sample of the Novel, List of Similar Books) and developing a list of agents who represent young adult dystopian novels. Today I queried the first agent on my list.

November and December 2022:  After putting Timelines to rest until early 2023, I started working on a new collection of short stories, untitled at this point, with the goal of publishing next fall. This will be a longer collection than The Moaning Rocks and Other Stories, mainly because there will be more stories in it, and the stories are shorter.

November 8, 2022: I completed the manuscript for my novel, Timelines (the working title was Empath). I set it aside until after the first of the year when I will give it a final polish and submit it to my first batch of agents. The process should take no longer than one month.
